Airports Handbook

Airports are a largely unknown and underappreciated resource in many communities. Except for the largest commercial service airports, most are perceived as areas reserved only for those who operate aircraft. In fact, airports are just as valuable to people who don’t fly, because these facilities bring important transportation and economic benefits to their surrounding communities and to the nation.

As dialogue between general aviation airport stakeholders and community residents takes on an increased importance, NBAA Members can use the NBAA Airports Handbook to show that airports are essential community assets, providing a positive economic impact and facilitating face-to-face business communications. The publication provides guidance on how business aviation operators can work with airports to ensure access, promote aviation safety and security, and otherwise serve as airport advocates.

This 24-page handbook is attractively illustrated and contains useful charts, economic case studies and a glossary of terms. It also includes a copy of an NBAA DVD titled Your Community Airport, which demonstrates the value of local airports through real-world scenarios. The DVD was created to encourage community dialogue about airports, and it is recommended viewing for flight departments, regional business aviation groups, airport user groups, chambers of commerce, local government and other community organizations.
